Mi lai massacre in Vietnam
In March 1968 the US army entered a village which was suspected in hiding Vietcong troops. The army was commanded by Lieutenant William Cally to kill people. In a few hours 300-500 unarmed civilians were killed. Many of them were women and children. Photos showing dead bodies were all seen on TV the American people saw this and were shocked. They thought they were going to help the country people and not to butcher villages in the country. This large scale massacre sparked off huge protests and put the government under a lot of pressure to get the troops out of Vietnam. Cally was later tried and then sentenced to life imprisonment because of his orders to kill Vitnamese people.
The army followed the orders that were given to them by a legitimate authority in this case was William Cally. So they were in the agentic State when they carried out the orders.
